Dermal Fillers Q&A
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. When added to the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water and helps your skin retain it, giving your skin a vital, healthy, moisturized appearance.
In some cases, repeated injections may also help stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen, which can help reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Over time, less and less filler may be needed to fill in wrinkles.
Unlike Botox® injections, which relax the muscle beneath a wrinkle, a dermal filler literally fills the line or crease left by a wrinkle, often causing a problem area to completely disappear. How long the effects of dermal fillers will last depends on the type of filler used and the location and severity of the wrinkle that’s being treated. InVision Eye Care typically uses fillers that last from six months to a year.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most common types of dermal fillers and is the key component of both the Juvederm and Restalyne treatments.
What is it like to get dermal fillers?
InVision Eye Care administers dermal fillers through a standard injection, delivered directly to the problem areas, typically on the face or hands. After the injections, you may experience some mild swelling and discomfort around the area they were applied. This will dissipate within a few days, and after the swelling goes down, a touch-up injection may be advisable for best results.
You should always get dermal fillers in a medical setting and always make sure that the fillers being used are approved by the FDA, as are all the fillers used at InVision Eye Care. After your treatment, make sure to wear sunscreen daily to help preserve the filler and protect your skin from any changes in pigment.
