Answering Common Questions about Botox and Fillers

Botox and fillers are popular treatments to minimize common signs of aging. But despite how common they are, there is still confusion about what the injectables do and what treatment entails. Here, the team at InVision Eye Care answers the most common questions about Botox and fillers.

What Can Botox and Fillers Treat?

Botox is used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The injectable temporarily relaxes the muscles that contract to cause the wrinkles. Most injectors use Botox to soften lines around the edges of the eyes, between the eyebrows and across the forehead.

Like Botox, fillers are used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles. However, they are often used to treat larger wrinkles or creases such as deeper folds between the nose and mouth or between the mouth and chin. Fillers can also be used to replace volume loss around the face. For instance, they can plump up the cheeks, temples or lips.

Can Botox and Fillers Be Used Together?

Yes. Together, Botox and fillers can help to create a more youthful-looking face. Sometimes two different fillers are also used in combination.

How Do I Know If I’m a Candidate for Botox or Fillers?

If you have unwanted mild to moderate wrinkles or fine lines, you might be a candidate for treatment with Botox and/or fillers. You should be in good general health and have reasonable expectations of improvement.

Does It Hurt to Get Botox or Fillers?

Treatment with Botox or fillers is not a painful experience. The needles used to administer the injectables are very small, so pain is minimal. Most patients report nothing more than mild pinches or pricks as the products are injected into the face. Icing the treatment area or using a topical anesthetic cream can help reduce the likelihood of discomfort. Certain fillers actually contain lidocaine, a numbing agent.

How Long Does It Take to Get Botox or Fillers?

In most cases, the injections take no longer than 15 to 30 minutes.

When Will I See Results After Treatment?

Most people are able to notice improvement within a few days. In some cases, it can take up to a week to see results.

How Long Do Botox and Fillers Last?

Botox usually lasts three to six months before its effects wear off. Depending on the specific filler, results can last three to nine months or more. Repeat treatment is required to maintain the results long term.
